1-DAY TRIPS FROM MARRAKECH

ouazoud

Ouzoud Waterfalls

A one-day trip that leaves Marrakech at 8 in the morning, to the Atlas mountains, which are not very far from Marrakech (160 km ). After several kilometers of dry and flat land, all of a sudden, a new green road opens and there they are - Ouzoud waterfalls. A natural and magical show, performed by the strength of water hitting against a rock bed and creating a fantastic rainbow. The Ouzoud waterfalls are the highest in all North Africa. After lunch, we will take a walk around the tracks along the river. We will be back in Marrakech around 4 pm. This is a refreshing trip that could last a day or, if you prefer, we could organise an overnight trip for a fully relaxing experience.

Ouarzazate

Ouarzazat, the name of this city derives from Arabic and it means “without noise”. It is near the Draa Valley and the Atlas mountains. It is called “The Gateway to the desert”, because in the old days it was a crossing point for those traders travelling with their caravans from South Africa. Our trip starts early in the morning in Marrakech. Before we arrive in Ouarzazat, we will cross the pass of Tiz-in-Tichka (2,260 m), one of the highest spots of North Africa. We will visit the Glaoui Palace, the Al Talouet Kasbah, and also the “Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou”, World Heritage site, where you can discover its castles. This place is famous for being the set of some famous films such as “Gladiator” or “Lawrence of Arabia”. We will visit the kasbahs of Taourirt and Tifoultoute, residence of Glaoui (former Pasha of Marrakech). After lunch, we will go back to Marrakech.

Asni Valle de Imlil

In the early morning we will go from Marrakech to Asni, in the Imlil Valley, the High Atlas. In about one hour we will reach the foot of the Toubkal, the highest mountain of Morocco and North Africa (over 4,500 meters). After that, we will visit the little town of Tahanaout where local farmers meet twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday) for the great bazaar. Then, we will go to the Ghaghia Wadi Gorge and, finally, get to Asni - the town of amethyst and the green valley of Ouirgane, also referred to as “Happiness Valley”.

Essaouira

We will leave for Essaouira in the early morning and the trip lasts 3 hours. We will get to Essaouira, former Mogador, a city that reminds us of the times when Spain, Portugal and England fought to control the coastline. The port is typically Portuguese mixed with Arabic style. Here you can enjoy the delicious seafood.

Ourika Valley

At the foot of Oukaimden ski resort, there is the Ourika Valley, reaching up to the first hills of the High Atlas, where you can discover several little villages that are typical of that area. It is a pure and splendid place where silence is only interrupted by chirping birds. Ourika is famous for its glassware and crystalline minerals.
